The island that lies off the coast of Charfashan is known as Dhalchar. On its southern side, you'll find a stunning beach where the long Meghna River meets the expansive sea. The landscape here is picturesque, featuring the unique charm of red crabs and the enchanting Tarua Island. Located about 150 km from the district headquarters, the beach is accessible via 135 kilometers of paved roads followed by a 15-kilometer waterway journey.
As the morning sun rises over Dip Tarua, it smiles down, only to retreat in the evening, casting a warm red glow across the western sky. Visiting this location reveals the hidden beauty of nature in all its glory. Situated at the southern end of the Dhalchar Union in Charfashan Upazila, Bhola, Tarua Beach offers a magical beauty at the mouth of the Bay of Bengal, stretching about four kilometers long. The area is home to deer, red crabs, and a 230-foot wooden landing station, surrounded by vast mangrove forests of keora and tarua trees, as well as goran, raintree, and geva species.
In winter, migratory birds flock to the island, adding to its charm. While there are no dangerous animals on Tarua Island, you may encounter various wildlife, including foxes and forest cats. The beach, with its soft white sands, features umbrellas and chairs for tourists to relax. Red crabs scuttle along the shore, but quickly retreat into their burrows at the slightest hint of human presence. The air is filled with the songs of countless birds, and during winter, the spectacle of migratory birds creates a serene atmosphere.

Today, Tarua Island has become one of Bangladesh's popular tourist destinations. It’s the perfect spot for those looking to escape the monotony of daily life. The rhythmic roar of the waves, the refreshing sea breeze, and the taste of fresh fish create an unforgettable experience. Families flock to the beach to enjoy its serene environment, which has become a favorite among tourists.
Regular launches depart from Dhaka Sadarghat to Betuara, arriving early in the morning. Fares range from Tk 1,200 to Tk 1,400 for single cabins and Tk 2,200 to Tk 2,400 for doubles. Deck seats cost Tk 350 to Tk 400 per person. After disembarking at Betua Ghat, an easy bike ride to Charfashion Bazar costs Tk 30, while a trip to Kachapia, 30 km away, costs Tk 60 by borak. Motorcycles are also available, but at double the fare. From Kachapia Ghat, you can take an engine-driven trawler to Dhalchar for Tk 100, enjoying the scenic beauty and bird songs along the way.
There are two routes to reach the beach from the Dhalchar launch ghat: one involves walking through the forest, which can be challenging due to uneven terrain covered by keora trees. Alternatively, a trawler can also take you to Tarua Beach. Visitors can combine their trip with a visit to Char Kukri-Mukri Ecopark.
While there are no hotels or bungalows on the beach, several homestays are available for Tk 200 to Tk 250 per person, or you can camp under the stars, renting a tent from locals. This beach is an ideal camping destination.
Local fish varieties are plentiful, and the area is famous for its roasted duck meat and buffalo milk curd. Though there are no restaurants, locals can assist with cooking, or you can prepare your meals on your own.
